MOVE 1985

The 1985 MOVE bombing was the destruction by the Philadelphia Police Department of a residential home occupied by the MOVE Organization in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by dropping an explosive device from a helicopter, on May 13, 1985. The Philadelphia Fire Department let the subsequent fire burn out of control following a standoff and firefight, with 61 previously evacuated homes burning to the ground over two city blocks. Six adults and five children died in the incident, with one adult and one child who lived in the house surviving. A lawsuit in federal court found that the city used excessive force and violated constitutional rights against unreasonable search and seizure
